I had my first portrait session in the beautiful state of Washington last weekend with a family that will have a lot to be thankful for this Holiday Season! A new sister was added to the mix earlier this year, and I’m sure it won’t take her brothers long to realize that the balance of power will be shifting…
I met up with these brothers, their parents and their beautiful goldendoodle dog at one of the North Shore beaches last weekend. They had a day off of the countless sports they’re in & had time to take some long overdue family shots. They were having fun skipping stones into Lake Michigan when Petey the dog decided that… even in late October… the water looked good! That wasn’t in the plans though, and I’m guessing it made for a wet ride home. Luckily we got a few shots of him before he took the plunge!
While I was in Chicago last weekend I was lucky enough to photograph these beautiful sisters and their parents, who wanted to capture the girls’ joie-de-vivre — joy of life — and there was plenty! And with only a year separating big sister and the twins, I have a feeling these girls are going to share a lifetime of happy moments together…
“Twice each day the cool, blue light of night interacts with the warm tones of daylight. Luckily for color photographers, these events, though predictable, are not consistent. For a full hour at either end of the day colors of light mix together in endless combinations, as if someone in the sky were shaking a kaleidoscope.”
- Galen Rowell (1940-2002)
Like so many other natural light photographers, I love… love… love… shooting during the ‘golden hours’! The first hour after the sun rises and the last hour before the sun sets gives this amazing warm, golden, almost magical light that you cannot get any other time of day – and it’s BY FAR the prettiest & most interesting light to work with. Least favorite times to photograph? During the middle of the day when the sun is the harshest. I love how these family portraits turned during our ‘golden hour’ session on one Chicago’s North Shore beaches.
When Make it Better magazine called to ask if I’d be interested in shooting their back-to-school Fall fashion feature story – Prep’s Cool – of course I said YES!! I had the best time working with the women at the magazine and the models for this story. Not only were our models amazing, but so was the location – the gorgeous campus of Lake Forest Academy!
